Garage Door Insulation Kit: How to Insulate a Garage Door

A well-insulated garage can make a significant difference in maintaining a comfortable temperature inside your home and reducing energy costs. One effective method is to insulate the garage door using our ES® Reflective Bubble RFID Radiant Barrier. ES® Reflective Bubble reflect 97% of radiant heat, making it an excellent choice for garage doors that are exposed to sunlight. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how install a garage door insulation kit:

Materials You’ll Need:

  1. Radiant barrier material
  2. Double-sided tape or adhesive
  3. Utility knife or scissors
  4. Measuring tape
  5. Straight edge or ruler

Step 1: Measure and Assess

Start by measuring the dimensions of your garage door panels. You’ll want to get accurate measurements to ensure you have enough radiant barrier material. Take note of any irregularities or obstructions on the door that may affect the installation process.

Step 2: Prepare the Surface

Clean the surface of the garage door panels thoroughly. Remove any dust, dirt, or debris using a mild detergent and water solution. Allow it to dry completely before proceeding.

Step 3: Cut the Radiant Barrier Material

Using your measurements from Step 1, cut the radiant barrier material to fit each panel of the garage door. Leave a slight overlap around the edges to ensure complete coverage.

Step 4: Apply Double-Sided Tape or Adhesive

Apply double-sided tape or adhesive along the edges and corners of the garage door panels. This will help secure the radiant barrier material in place.

Step 5: Attach the Radiant Barrier

Carefully position the cut pieces of radiant barrier material onto each panel, pressing them onto the double-sided tape or adhesive. Make sure there are no wrinkles or air bubbles, as these can affect the effectiveness of the insulation. (Optional: use garage door self tapping screws for added security).

Step 6: Trim Excess Material

Use a utility knife or scissors to trim any excess radiant barrier material along the edges of the panels. This will give a clean and neat finish.

Step 7: Seal Seams using Reflective Tape

Use foil tape to seal any seams or gaps between pieces. This will ensure a continuous barrier.

Step 8: Test and Adjust

After installation, open and close the garage door to ensure that the radiant barrier material does not interfere with its operation. Make any necessary adjustments if needed.

By using our reflective bubble as a garage door insulation kit, you’ll not only improve temperature regulation but also enhance energy efficiency. This relatively simple DIY project to insulate your garage door can have a substantial impact on the overall comfort and energy costs associated with your home.
